About Daugavpils and interesting time spending

Daugavpils is a multicultural, multi-ethnic and multifunctional city, service center of the cross-border economic development.

The city has continually changed its name: Dinaburg (1275), Borisoglebsk (1656-1667), Dvinsk (1893-1920), Daugavpils (from 1920).

 

An outstanding artist Mark Rothko; the “King of Tango” – Oscar Strok; an actor, film director, politician – Solomon Mihoels – all they were born in Daugavpils.

 

The historic city center is the most attractive place, and one of the most successful models, reaching a compromise between the old and the new. The city is one of the few Latvian cities that can boast of a unique ensemble of classical and eclectic buildings. The city population is about 104 000 inhabitants and an area - 72,48 km ².
